I gotta say, I am digging Gwyneth Paltrow’s GOOP website/newsletter, whose mission is to “nourish the inner aspect.” It’s filled with lots of ideas, both hip and helpful (well, and some not so at the moment—though I do love anything foodie oriented, I, sadly, don’t envision I’ll be lunching with the kids in Barcelona or London any time soon, or purchasing any designer fashions until my next life …). About every week or so, I get a nifty, conversational email about the idea of the week (and hey, it’s from Gwyneth, no less!). GOOP is wrapped around six main categories: Make, Go, Get, Do, Be, See. And, Miss GP includes plenty of family- and mommy-friendly ideas. GOOP features expert advice aplenty. And, there are lots of celebrity hooks—recipes and restaurant ideas from GP buddy Mario Batali, Cameron Diaz’s “green list,” DJ AM’s party jam picks, gal pal Madonna’s fave books, and so on—and that’s kinda fun. Essentially, though, I find it a great resource and collective of ideas—info on things alternative (healing modalities, for example), travel ideas (for my future files…), general food for thought (parenting ideas from experts). Back on that foodie note, I absolutely love the recipes GOOP features—a great variety that runs the gamut from family friendly to vegan, dairy-free, meat-free, super healthy deals that sound truly delicious. One friend had great success with Gwyneth’s detox diet (minus 6 lbs in one week) … that’s one aspect of GOOP I’ve not yet checked out, but hope to soon!

If you are interested in teaching your child yoga, Little Yoga: A Toddler’s First Book of Yoga is a great place to start.
Full of colorful illustrations of beginner poses and whimsical text, you can both take a much needed breather and practice yoga together. (This works great especially if your child was more interested in taking props from other little yogis while in yoga class…not my daughter of course)
Watch for the DVD to come out—Gwyneth Paltrow will be doing the commentary since she loves the book for her children. Currently, the book is available at most book stores including Amazon, Borders, and Barnes and Noble.
Namaste!

While on vacation, I saw the Infant CPR Anytime featured as a “mommy must-have” on Martha Stewart. This was such a wonderful find since I keep meaning to sign my husband and I up for a refresher CPR course now that it has been a while since we have had one.
What has been holding me back is the difficulty of finding a sitter for the time the classes are available etc. This is the next best thing and I am so happy I found it! I am going to figure out which kit best suits my family and get one!
If you are like us, and getting out to a CPR class is difficult, give this at home kit from The American Heart Association a try!!!

There has been a lot discussed in the media recently regarding Jenny McCarthy’s recent book about her son Evan who has autism, called Louder Than Words: A mother’s Journey in Healing Autism. This book has been extremely helpful to a lot of parents who are trying to find out if their child has autism and what do do after their child has been diagnosed.
Now there is also a visual tool at autismspeaks.org calld the ASD Video Glossary where parents can watch video of a child without autism and a child with autism interacting with the same environment. This will be helpful to a parent, since it can be hard to tell if your child does have autism. By watching the videos, and the childrens’ different reactions to their environment, you can be better prepared to ask questions of your doctor and be better equipped to explain what worries you about your child’s behavior.
“… an innovative web-based tool designed to help parents and professionals learn more about the early red flags and diagnostic features of autism spectrum disorders (ASD). ”
Pass this on to anyone you know who would find this helpful. Mama Jen

And I ate it last week!!!!
On our trip to the Bay Area last week, where we used to live, our friends who live in Half Moon Bay suggested we all go to Sam’s Chowder House for dinner. I had never been there because it wasn’t there when I had lived out there—our friends are real foodies, so I knew we were in for a treat. The restaurant is right on the ocean, so there are wonderful views. It was casual though, which was good since we both had our kids in tow.
Once I mentioned the Lobster Roll on the menu, our friends chimed in about how delicious it is and how, no matter what we order, we must get two for the table to share…we also learned that it was one of the top five contenders last week for “America’s Best Sandwich” on The Today Show.
Well!!!! East Coasters prepare yourselves!!! This is the best lobster roll I have ever had, and for good reason! I love lobster, and that is what you get…lots of tender big pieces of lobster which aren’t hidden under the typical mound of mayo—just light dressing of delicate butter, herb and celery. Out of this world. Even the ex-East Coaster in our party agreed.
If you find yourself in Half Moon Bay (where I have long had visions of my fantasy dwelling), you must go to Sam’s Chowder House for their famous Lobster Roll! (Don’t forget—being able to have lobster in a rustic but swanky, oceanside restaurant where it is fine to have your kids in tow is a huge plus!) Mama Jen

Wow….we found another fabulous company called Baby Jar with products you just MUST have for your little ones!
Baby Jar carries the most heavenly blankets I have ever come into contact with. I have the Pink Polka Dot & Fuchsia crib blanket, and when it arrived for my daughter, I stole the first night to snuggle with it!! Selfishness warmed over me at first touch of this thing… First of all, as the website claims, the blanket is big and scrumptious—so rare to find a large, ultra soft blanket for toddlers…toddlers need soft too! This blanket is the absolute softest and most luxurious baby blanket ever—period! Whenever I go to check on my daughter while she is sleeping, she is cuddled up in such a way that her body is cuddled, and her face is ALWAYS on this blanket…sooooooo cuddly and soft!!
The other little treat that we have is the very brilliant and wonderfully styled Dot’olicious Snuggle-ette! It combines super soft plush fabric on one side, and ultra-silky on the other—and it is all of 15” by 17.” Fantastic for the babe who always wants a security item with them, and practical for the parent who only has so many places to stash the ever-so-important ”lovey” while on the go! The size is key here.
Baby Jar was created by sisters Jessica Shiffman and Racheal Shapiro for today’s “funky, fun and fabulous” babies and their fashion conscious parents. In fact, some of the fashion conscious celebrity parents who bought these amazing products are, Gwen Stefani, Tobey Maguire, Jamie Pressly, Adam Sandler and Tori Spelling. Their swanky soft blankets and burpies don the shelves of ultra-hip Kitson Kids in Los Angeles as well as other uber-hip joints across the nation!

We all pay enough for shoes for our feet, so why do we stop when it comes to shades?
If you are in Las Vegas, you MUST go to Lunettes in in the Paris hotel and casino.
They offer a wide variety of high-end sunglasses from Fendi, Gucci, Prada, Chanel, and many others. The best part—go when Julie is working–the lady has miles of style and will help you find the perfect fit for your face…after trying on so many in my life, leaving stores with some winners and some losers, this service is worth the extra price!! Happy Shopping! Mama Jen
